Background: Vitamin C is a well-known antioxidant and essential cofactor for numerous biological reactions. Several studies reported that vitamin C can improve the symptoms and prognosis of patients with sepsis and respiratory infection. We aimed to examine the effect of vitamin C when used in viral pneumonia patients with severe respiratory failure.
Methods: Total 201 patients with viral pneumonia were included, of them 35 patients used vitamin C. We performed a statistical analysis through a propensity score matching of the age and baseline characteristics of these patients.

Types of participants
We will include:
healthy adults and children receiving vitamin C supplementation for preventing pneumonia and
adults and children with confirmed pneumonia receiving vitamin C supplementation as an adjunct to treatment for pneumonia.
We will exclude participants with pneumonia secondary to immune suppression or related to primary diagnoses, including HIV/AIDS, meningitis, severe malnutrition, asthma, and sickle cell disease. We will also exclude studies of supplementation in preterm and low birth weight infants. We will not include participants with hospitalacquired and ventilatorassociated pneumonia.
Types of interventions
We will include studies evaluating the impact of vitamin C supplementation via any route , frequency, dose, and duration given:

Vitamin D Supplements May Reduce The Chance Of Developing A Chest Infection
Vitamin D supplements may reduce the chances of contracting an acute respiratory tract infection, particularly for those with low existing levels of vitamin D.
This NIHR-funded study pooled patient data from 25 randomised controlled trials and found that daily or weekly supplements reduced respiratory tract infections compared with placebo. About 20 people would need to take regular supplements in order to prevent one infection. One-off monthly dosing gave no benefit.
